Some more from our trip to the UP: Greywalls and Heritage are both part of the Marquette Golf Club, and we ended up playing both due to a confluence of events: the night we drove into town, the CR-V popped a major flat tire. Turns out you shouldn’t ignore the tire pressure button for months, oops! After changing the flat and still making it to Presque Isle for the sunset (we were both proud of ourselves for figuring out how to do that, woot woot), the next morning was spent calling around to local shops to see who could install a new tire. The entire town of Marquette apparently needed car work, because every shop I called was booked out for at least a week. Thankfully, fate intervened when a very nice man named John at Pomp’s Tire took pity on me and told me he would see what he could do to squeeze me into the queue there. Not only did John bump us to the front of a very packed schedule, but he handed me his card and told me to introduce myself to the golf pros at the Marquette Golf Club. He said, “tell them John sent you and to be nice to you.” Well…wow. Was the Marquette Golf Club ever nice to us!!! They gave us a MAJOR discount to play what turned out to be, hands down, one of the most balls-out beautiful golf courses we’ve experienced. Knowing Mike Devries designed both Pilgrim’s Run AND Greywalls, I’m looking forward to seeking out and playing more of his courses! And a huge thanks to John at Pomp’s for turning what was a very cortisol-inducing start to our roadtrip into a very pleasant, relaxing one! And JB ended up with an eagle on one of the holes at Heritage, so a memorable golf trip all around!
